Black Swan Graphene says it has completed a major expansion at its manufacturing site in Consett, United Kingdom, more than tripling production capacity and pushing annual output above 140 tonnes. The company disclosed the milestone on March 18, 2026, after calibrating and commissioning a new large-scale production unit built around a customized 3160 Ariete System from GEA Group.

The company said the upgraded unit is now capable of continuous operation, marking what it described as its fourth and largest scale-up. The expansion turns a long-planned capacity increase into active production, rather than another engineering-stage buildout.

That matters because graphene producers have long struggled to bridge the gap between pilot manufacturing and repeatable industrial output. A facility that can run continuously at larger scale is a more practical test of whether graphene can be supplied in consistent volumes for downstream materials customers.

The new system is built around a customized industrial homogenizer

Black Swan said the production line centers on a GEA 3160 Ariete System adapted for its proprietary high-shear liquid-phase exfoliation process. In practical terms, the company is relying on a piece of industrial equipment that has been tuned for its own manufacturing method rather than a generic off-the-shelf configuration.

The company framed the expansion as the result of a 12-year collaboration with GEA, suggesting the latest step is not a speculative pilot installation but the product of a long-running process engineering effort. That kind of manufacturing specificity is important in graphene, where batch consistency, throughput and defect control can determine whether the material is commercially usable.

Higher output strengthens the case for graphene in industrial materials

Black Swan has been positioning its graphene products for high-volume markets such as polymers and concrete, where scale and reliability matter as much as performance. Moving past 140 tonnes a year gives the company more room to support customer testing, product qualification and broader commercial supply.
